HOUSTON – A motorcyclist was critically injured Saturday night after a high-speed crash on the North Freeway while troopers tried to stop the rider, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
DPS said a trooper spotted a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed without a license plate around 7:30 p.m. Troopers attempted to pull the rider over for the plate violation, but the motorcycle took off instead, DPS said.
According to DPS, the rider exited the freeway, turned around and re-entered I-45, then continued weaving through traffic while attempting to get away from the trooper. The pursuit ended near Exit 41A, where DPS said the motorcycle hit a metal barrier at more than 100 mph.
The rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, DPS said. Investigators also noted the motorcyclist has a history of warrants related to evading police and other misdemeanor arrests.
The DPS trooper was not injured in the crash.
DPS is handling the investigation.
