SAN ANTONIO – Burning bags of potato chips sparked a two-alarm fire at a food recycling warehouse on early Monday morning on the West Side.
The fire started just before 2:30 a.m. at a warehouse off Monterey Street near Buena Vista Street.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the building. The large size and layout of the warehouse made it difficult for crews to immediately locate the source of the fire, prompting a second alarm to be called for additional support.
Once inside, firefighters discovered a large pile of debris—mostly bags of chips—actively burning within the structure. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
Officials believe the fire had been burning for some time before it was reported by a passerby. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
