Monsoon storms hit Phoenix area with rain, strong winds

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A line of storms developed Sunday night, prompting a severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service for much of the Valley.

A flash flood warning is in effect for areas of Avondale, Goodyear and Buckeye until 1 a.m.

Power outages

As of 10:30 p.m., about 52,000 Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service customers are without power, mostly in the West Valley.

Damage reports

A large pole was seen downed near 7th Street and Dunlap Avenue.

A tree fell on a power line at 51st Avenue and Thomas Road.

There are also several reports of lines down across the West Valley, including at 51st and Glendale avenues.

Arizona’s Family is tracking the storm and will post updates here as they are received.

Earlier in the evening, hail was seen falling in North Mountain Park in Phoenix.

A wall of dust was also seen just south of I-8 in southern Maricopa County, which could make its way to the Phoenix area.
