As Democrats and Republicans are engaged in a nationwide fight for control of the House, Gov. Kathy Hochul says she’s considering restarting New York’s redistricting process early next year — responding to GOP-led states like Texas, where Republicans are trying to strengthen control and even pick up more seats before 2026.

2. City touts progress on gun violence, but advocates say more work ahead

Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD are continuing to tout a drop in shootings across the city. On Sunday, the police department said it had taken 3,000 illegal guns off the streets so far this year.

But those most effected by gun violence say plenty of work lies ahead.

3. New York City police charge mother in the deaths of newborn twins

A 36-year-old woman was charged Friday in the deaths of newborn twins who were found behind a New York City apartment building nearly five years ago, police said.

Stephanie Castillo, identified as the boys’ mother, was arrested at a homeless shelter in the Bronx, police said. She is charged with murder and manslaughter.
