Believe 271 Holds Annual Golf Tournament

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. — The Believe 271 Foundation held its 12th annual golf tournament today, continuing efforts to support local first responders.

This year’s tournament was the biggest one yet, with officials having to turn away eight groups of participants because they were over capacity.

The foundation was founded in 2014 with the goal of providing financial assistance to firefighters, EMTs and Ladies Auxiliaries throughout Herkimer and Oneida counties.

Over the years, they have donated over $525,000 to people battling cancer, and other diseases.

“So much of their medical care just isn’t covered. We’ve helped people with transportation to Buffalo, Boston, even Texas. We’re just so proud to get to make a difference in helping these people recover,” said Believe 271 President Brian McQueen.

New to this year’s tournament was the memorial putting green, full of signs honoring service members who were helped by Believe 271 before they died.

“We want to make sure that we recognize all our people that we’ve given to in the past. It’s just a reminder of how much we’ve given. And it’s a nice way to recognize them,” said Vice President of Believe 271 Fred Sherman.

Believe 271 representatives said that without the support from the community, they wouldn’t be able to help people in the way they are today.
