Dallas-Fort Worth will see triple-digit heat and an increasing fire threat this week as dry conditions and gusty winds persist.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Monday afternoon, which has been extended through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Dallas-Fort Worth’s heat index, or “feels like” temperature, is expected to reach 108 degrees.
Tuesday’s high will be 101 degrees, with temperatures expected to be in triple digits from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. North Texans may see some clouds, and wind gusts are expected to reach 21 mph.
Nighttime temperatures Tuesday will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s, according to the weather service.
The weather service forecasts minimal rain chances on Tuesday and through the rest of the week.
As winds pick up and North Texas remains dry, the region could become more susceptible to drought and fire threats, according to the weather service.
“Our focus will shift to an increasing fire weather threat across North and Central Texas by mid/late week,” the weather service said Monday.
The fire threat is expected to increase on Thursday as winds become stronger. Wind gusts could reach 25 mph or higher in some areas Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service.
To stay safe in the dangerous heat, the weather service recommends staying hydrated, wearing loose and lightweight clothing and staying indoors or in the shade when possible.
