Stephen Curry will begin his 18th season tangling with Luka Dončić.
Curry and his Golden State Warriors will open the 2026-27 season on the road against the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA announced Tuesday. The game will take place Wednesday, Oct. 21 (7 p.m.) at Crypto.com Arena.
This counts as an encore to last season’s Warriors-Lakers opener, also on Oct. 21 in Los Angeles. That game pitted Curry against LeBron James, of course, and the Warriors won 119-109 behind 31 points from forward Jimmy Butler and 23 from Curry.
James has since left the Lakers for the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent. Butler will miss at least the first half of the upcoming season as he recovers from a torn ACL.
The Warriors also will face Denver and three-time MVP Nikola Jokić on Friday, Dec. 25 at Chase Center (at 7:30 p.m.). That will mark Golden State’s 14th consecutive Christmas Day appearance.
Last season, the Warriors beat Dallas 126-116 at home on Christmas Day. Curry scored 23 points to lead seven Golden State players in double figures.
This year’s opener will mark the fifth time in the past seven seasons the Warriors begin their campaign on the road. It also will be the fourth time in six years they’ve tipped off their season against the Lakers.
The NBA will announce the full schedule for the 2026-27 season Thursday at noon.
