MILL BASIN — ADRIENNE ADAMS, FORMER SPEAKER of the New York City Council, will make an appearance at the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club, one of Brooklyn’s oldest and most influential political organizations, the evening of Aug. 13.
Adams, who will be part of the club’s Guest Speaker Series, is a current candidate for lieutenant governor, running on Gov. Kathy Hochul’s ticket in the 2026 election. As council speaker, Adams made investments in affordable housing, public safety, education, child care and community services.
After leaving the council in 2025 due to term limits, she ran unsuccessfully for NYC mayor. In February 2026, Hochul selected Adams as her running mate, creating New York’s first all-female major party gubernatorial ticket.
The Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club traces its roots to 1958, when it was founded by longtime Brooklyn Democratic power broker Meade Esposito and Shirley Weiner. Over the decades, the club became a powerful force in Brooklyn politics, helping cultivate generations of Democratic candidates, elected officials and party leaders. Frank Seddio, who served as president of the club from 1992 to 1998 and later returned to lead it, has been one of its most prominent modern figures.
