Should we read anything into the fact that there are plenty of former Detroit Red Wings, including some of recent vintage, on the list of remaining UFAs?
Truthfully, there are some interesting names on the “still available” list, led by scorer Jack Roslovic (22 goals last season) and Max Pacioretty, a six-time 30-plus goal scorer. Defenseman Matt Grzelcyk is also out there, plus Victor Olofsson who has 105 goals in 370 NHL games.
The hockey world used to believe that Alexandar Georgiev could be a decent NHL goalie. He’s also still looking for work. You would think someone would take a chance on him.
But players are starting to be concerned about the NHL unemployment rate. Conor Sheary has already signed a PTO with the New York Rangers.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
Detroit first rounder Eddie Genborg signed a contract to play two seasons for Timra in the Swedish Hockey League. That’s Henrik Zetterberg’s former team.
The Red Wings were not among sportsnet.ca’s list of potential suitors for Nazem Kadri if the Calgary Flames choose to move him. But the Atlantic rival Montreal Canadiens are on that list.
The NHL schedule is out and the Red Wings have announced all of the Detroit giveaway games and special promotions. You can still secure that gravy boat on Thanksgiving Eve.
Red Wings Extra
Red Wings second round draft pick Eddie Genborg (44th, 2025) played left wing for Sweden at the Summer Showcase in a 5-2 win against USA Blue. Genborg didn’t figure in the scoring. He’s playing on a line with center Linus Eriksson (drafted 58th overall by Florida, 2024) and wing Melvin Fernstrom (drafted 93rd overall by Vancouver, 2024).
