Veterinary pathologists at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance conducted the necropsy on Jackie the bald eagle.
They found a number of health issues that contributed to her death including a large blood clot in her wing and kidney. Her remains will be sent to the National Eagle Repository which is responsible for the evaluation and management of eagle remains.
They also distribute eagle parts to Native American tribes who use them for ceremonies and cultural traditions.
Jackie was 14. the Ojai Raptor Center says the average lifespan of an eagle in the wild is 15 to 25 years.
