JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – A dog has died, and two people were taken to the hospital after a boat caught fire in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Fire Deputy Chief Shaun Hayes says crews were called to the boat on fire in the New River near Jacksonville Landing around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
When crews first arrived, they said they saw heavy flames on the boat and immediately went to extinguish the fire.
Officials say two people were on board the boat and were taken to local hospitals by Onslow County EMS in stable condition.
Crews also say a dog was killed in the fire.
Camp Lejeune Fire & Emergency Services and other federal assets were called in to assist with considerations of minor hazardous materials.
