DYERSVILLE, Iowa — The Field of Dreams in Dyersville has completed a major renovation and is ready to host its next event, with upgrades that include inground dugouts, locker rooms, a video board, a press box and permanent water and sewer infrastructure.
Construction began in the fall of 2024. BrightView Landscapes oversaw the project, which transformed the site from a movie-set destination into a facility capable of hosting professional baseball on a recurring basis.
MLB Network analyst Dan Plesac, who has covered the Chicago White Sox for the last couple of weeks, said players who appeared at the Field of Dreams still talk about the experience.
“I was covering the White Sox for the last two weeks and all the players say it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Everyone that was here for the White Sox traveling party said it was one of the greatest sporting events they’ve ever been to,” Plesac said. “I don’t think you could ever get enough of the Field of Dreams.”
The site has hosted two MLB regular-season games. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has made the venue part of a broader initiative to stage games at notable locations across the country and internationally.
Murray Cook, president of BrightView Landscapes, said the infrastructure improvements were among the most significant changes for fans.
“Big upgrade was having running toilets and water and sewer lines and all the things that make the ballpark more fan friendly,” Cook said.
Cook also described the site’s place within Manfred’s larger vision.
“He’s had this vision that’s come to fruition over the last few years to play in unique and exciting places around the country and internationally,” Cook said. “The Field of Dreams is just iconic.”
The first players on the field after the renovation work were high school athletes, not major leaguers. Some of those same players are now part of the crew preparing the field for its next event.
“It’s a super nice field, that’s for sure,” said Brett Harris, a Western Dubuque graduate. “It’s special for everyone involved.”
