The U.S. Department of Labor’s Senior Community Service Employment program provides job training, computer skills, and resume coaching for seniors who can’t afford to retire.

It has placed hundreds of seniors in jobs in community centers, schools, and public assistance programs. But as of July 1 of this year, the 140 seniors participating in this program have been furloughed because of federal and state funding cuts.

Reset speaks to three participants about how this program has helped them afford life-saving medications and rent, and what needs to be in place for them to thrive.
