Mission Marquee Plaza, home to San Antonio’s largest outdoor stage and screen, is more than just a venue—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and history.
Colleen Swain, director of the World Heritage Office, shares how the plaza is committed to preserving its rich past while creating space for vibrant community events. As a free historical World Heritage site, Mission Marquee offers year-round programming designed to educate and inspire locals and visitors alike.
On the first and third Saturdays of each month, the plaza transforms into an open-air cinema. Guests are invited to bring their own snacks, blankets, and even their pets to enjoy a free movie under the stars. Before the film begins, visitors can explore the morning farmer and artisan market, featuring fresh produce and handcrafted goods from local vendors.
Beyond movie nights, Mission Marquee hosts a variety of cultural celebrations including Viva Poesía, Día de los Muertos, and other events filled with live music, dance performances, and community storytelling.
Whether you’re looking to learn, shop, or simply relax with a good film, Mission Marquee Plaza offers a unique blend of entertainment and heritage that brings San Antonio’s history to life.
