PHOENIX — Maricopa County’s animal shelters will be offering free dog adoptions starting on Saturday.

With almost 900 dogs in its care, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is running out of space, according to communications officer Kim Powell. She noted that 88 of those dogs arrived at the shelter last Friday.

“Simply put, more lost dogs are coming in than they are being adopted,” Powell said in a press release Wednesday.

The Aiming for a Shot at Love event will run from this Saturday, Aug. 2, to Sunday, Aug. 10.

Fees for dogs six months and older will be waived.

All three of Maricopa County’s shelters in Mesa, Phoenix and Scottsdale will be participating in the event and are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

While supplies last, adopters will also go home with some swag from Tito’s Vodka For Dog People program.
