‘Final Destination Bloodlines’

The season of slasher and supernatural horror kicked into high gear earlier this year when “Final Destination Bloodlines” impressed critics and made a splash at the box office. Set to stream Friday on HBO Max, the flick stars newcomer Kaitlyn Santa Juana as a college student who keeps having nightmares about a violent tragedy, putting her family, predictably, at risk of some gruesome deaths. The film also marks one of the last on-screen roles for late horror icon Tony Todd, who grew up in New England. Available on HBO Max

We could all use a laugh these days, and there’s no better classic to queue up for a fun movie night than “Blazing Saddles,” which streams on Paramount+ beginning Friday. The Mel Brooks-directed film, which turned 50 last year, stars Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little as unlikely Old West heroes who must protect their town from being taken over by an unscrupulous railroad company. Globe film critic Odie Henderson called the western parody a “masterpiece” in his 2024 appreciation, writing that he’s seen the flick “so many times that it ranks in the top 3 on my most-seen movies list.” Available on Paramount+
