SAN ANTONIO – We now have an idea of the economic impact the proposed sports and entertainment district could bring to the city.
San Antonio hired consultants to break down just how much each project could bring in.
The consulting firm CSL International was the one hired to find out how much revenue the city would make once Project Marvel is completed. The number they came back with is over $18 billion over the next 30 years.
That would come from an increase in visitors and events, according to the firm.
CSL said they based their estimates on projections for direct and indirect spending. However, that number does not include the proposed new Spurs arena.
The NBA franchise hired their own consultants, who estimated the arena would generate almost $900 million in total economic output.
A second convention center and the land bridge over Interstate 37 were also missing from the projections report.
What the report does say is that San Antonio will see profit over the next 30 years.
Additions to the convention center would generate $8.3 billion.
Upgrades to the Alamodome are expected to produce about $850 million.
Converting the former courthouse into a music venue would mean about $1.2 billion in direct and indirect spending.
Finally, the mixed-use development planned to surround the Spurs arena would generate $8 billion.
City Council is expected to discuss these estimates at a special meeting on Aug. 6.
