PHOENIX – A person walking on Interstate 17 in Phoenix was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night, authorities said.
The vehicle-pedestrian collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. on southbound I-17 near Indian School Road, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The pedestrian died after being taken to a hospital.
Southbound I-17 was closed while the scene was under investigation but was reopened before the Friday morning commute.
It’s unclear why the person was on the freeway, DPS said.
No other details about the incident were made available.
