PHOENIX – Crews are wrapping up suppression efforts on a northern Arizona wildfire that prompted evacuations over three weeks ago.
Containment on the White Sage Fire is up to 95%, according to Friday morning’s incident report.
The wildfire burned through 58,985 acres before it stopped expanding on Sunday.
A Burned Area Emergency Response team is on the scene to evaluate the impact and devise a rehabilitation strategy.
Little if any additional fire activity is expected, but smoke could be visible from State Route 89A due to smoldering fuels.
What caused the White Sage Fire?
A lightning strike sparked the White Sage Fire about 15 miles southeast of Fredonia on July 9. Areas around Jacob Lake were temporarily evacuated as the fire spread.
The location is about 35 miles north of the destructive Dragon Bravo Fire, which is still burning north of the Grand Canyon.
