A hazmat situation in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood prompted a large response from police, fire officials, SWAT and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Friday.

Just before noon Friday, authorities responded to the 1100 block of West Catalpa, police said.

The reason for the response was not immediately known.

Fire department officials said the call came in for a hazmat situation. By 2 p.m., the scene was secured, according to the fire department.

ATF said their officials were on scene assisting Chicago police.

Pictures on social media at the scene show a large response from police, fire and tactical units and a sidewalk in the area blocked by police tape.
