The Boston Consulting Group, or BCG, has been the center of protests and criticism by the Dallas Chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement, or Dallas PYM.
BCG has faced international backlash for its involvement in establishing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which has drafted plans to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Here is what to know about BCG and why Dallas PYM is protesting the group.
“Worst-case” famine conditions in Gaza
Breaking News
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people. Hamas abducted an additional 251. Since then, Israel and Hamas have been in an ongoing war along the West Bank that has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Israel paused fighting this week to allow food and aid into the Gaza Strip; however, the U.N. said that a pause in fighting will not be enough to help solve “famine-like” conditions there.

On July 29, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, or IPC, said two out of three famine thresholds have been reached in Gaza, which are plummeting food consumption, acute malnutrition, and disease. It also said that one in three people in Gaza are now going without food for days at a time.
The U.N. said aid trucks have faced difficulties getting into the Gaza Strip due to military restrictions. Though some aid has gotten through, the U.N. said it will not be nearly enough to help alleviate the famine-like conditions. It said much of the additional aid let in during a six-week ceasefire earlier this year is still inside the border because U.N. trucks could not pick it up.
Palestinians have also been attacked when attempting to receive aid, with Israeli strikes killing over 1,000 Palestinians attempting to get food since May.

Who is the Boston Consulting Group, and what is its involvement in the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
The BCG is an American consulting firm founded in 1963. It is considered one of the three largest consulting firms in the world, along with McKinsey & Company and Bain & Company.
BCG helped establish the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S.- and Israel-backed organization established in May to provide humanitarian aid, such as food, to the Gaza Strip.
The GHF has received international backlash because it has supported the U.S. and Israel, and also due to its plans to aid only specific parts of Gaza. Critics have said that because GHF only plans to distribute in southern and central Gaza, it would force Palestinians to move further south to receive aid.
Critics said this would cause the forced displacement of Palestinians, and it is using aid against Palestinians for political endeavors. The U.N. has stated that although it has enough resources to get to every part of Gaza, it is not allowed to enter safely because of Israeli forces.
Boston Consulting Group is also accused of creating financial plans in partnership with GHF for a post-war Gaza Strip. The plan included paying Gazans a “relocation package” worth $9,000 per person. The plan was said to include $5,000, subsidized rent for four years, and subsidized food for a year.
On July 6, BCG said in a statement that media reports had misrepresented its role in post-war Gaza reconstruction plans. BCG said that two former partners at BCG conducted the work without BCG’s approval and after being explicitly told not to do it.
“We fully disavow this work. BCG was not paid for any of this work,” BCG’s statement said.
Protests against BCG and the Gaza Humanitarian Fund
Dallas PYM has held protests at BCG’s Dallas offices for the past two weeks.
Dallas PYM said it wants BCG to help in dismantling GHF, make all aid to Gaza unconditional, demilitarized, and direct. The group also said BCG should publicly disavow genocide and sign the “Anti Genocide Pledge.” Critics of Israel have called what’s happening in Gaza genocide.
The group staged a sit-in on July 25 to protest BCG’s involvement in GHF, which ended with Dallas police arresting 12 demonstrators. On Thursday, the group returned to BCG offices and focused on creating a noise demonstration.

Clanging pots and pans together, the group demanded that BCG end its role in helping establish and fund the Gaza Humanitarian Fund.
Stacey Monroe, a spokesperson for Dallas PYM, acknowledged that aid had been let in due to continued international pressures, but said they will continue to protest until Gaza receives the aid needed to ease the famine-like conditions.
“We will always be strategic,” Monroe said, “That is a win for us, but we want more. We want them to get that month and year’s worth of aid into Gaza. … Everyone should have aid, not just a percent.”
