Adam Sandler is having a great summer so far, and it’s not just because of his long-anticipated Happy Gilmore sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. Another Sandler sequel movie is climbing up Netflix’s Top 10.

Per FlixPatrol, Grown Ups 2, which was released in 2013 and is a follow-up to 2010’s Grown Ups, is in the No. 9 spot in Netflix’s Top 10 as of Aug. 2. Sandler fans seemingly can’t get enough of the funnyman, as Happy Gilmore 2 is the No. 1 movie on the streamer and the first Grown Ups film is in the No. 7 spot. Even his 2018 animated movie, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, is in the top 10, ranking in a respectable third place.

In Grown Ups 2, Sandler’s Lenny Feder moves back to his hometown to be near his childhood friends and to escape his busy Los Angeles lifestyle. Instead of finding the quiet life he longs for, Lenny instead has to deal with bullies, new and old, as well as the drama that comes from living in a small town. In addition to Sandler, Grown Ups 2 stars Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Nick Swardson, Steve Buscemi, and Colin Quinn.

The sequel was directed by Dennis Dugan, who also directed the first Grown Ups movie. Dugan and Sandler are longtime collaborators as the director was also behind the camera for Jack and Jill, Just Go with It, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Big Daddy, and the original Happy Gilmore.

Despite having an 8% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, Grown Ups 2 was a box-office hit and earned $246.8 million worldwide against its budget of $80 million. Fans have been wondering for years whether another Grown Ups film will ever be made.

Fans Shouldn’t Give Up Hope for Grown Ups 3

Back in 2020, comedian Tom Scharpling, via X (formerly Twitter), said he had written a script for a third Grown Ups movie, calling it “the best thing I will ever do in my life, professionally or otherwise.”

In July, James confirmed that hope is not lost as far as making a third Grown Ups movie. When the actor-comedian was asked if there had been any recent conversations regarding a Grown Ups reboot, James told The Direct: “I think there have been. And I think, yeah, I think you can keep hope alive. And I think it’s happening – something’s happening. I can say that.”

In the first two films, James, who is best known for starring in the long-running CBS sitcom The King of Queens, played Sandler’s friend Eric Lamonsoff. He can currently be seen opposite Christina Ricci in the action-comedy Guns Up, which is available on digital platforms.

Sandler, in addition to starring in Happy Gilmore 2, will soon be seen in the comedy/drama Jay Kelly, which co-stars George Clooney and Laura Dern. Jay Kelly will be released in select theaters on Nov. 14 and added to Netflix on Dec. 5, continuing Sandler’s partnership with the streamer, which began in 2014.

Grown Ups 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
