Five Dallas women were killed in a traffic crash on July 25 in Central Texas, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

In a statement, the department identified them as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantes, and Jacqueline Velazco. In a Facebook post, the mother of one of the five women said they were all “best friends.”

Troopers responded to the crash at about 6 p.m. on US 281 near Park Road 4 in Burnet County, according to the statement.

A RAM 4500 truck pulling a livestock trailer was traveling northbound on US 281 when it crossed into the southbound lanes, the statement said. The truck then hit a Chevrolet Malibu head-on, before striking a Mercedes SUV traveling behind the Malibu.

The Mercedes subsequently overturned and caught fire, according to DPS.

The department said the five women in the Mercedes were pronounced dead at the scene, while the occupants of the other vehicles received non-life-threatening injuries.
