PBS Appalachia and Blue Ridge PBS not shutting down despite federal funding cuts

  • August 3, 2025

(WDBJ) – PBS Appalachia and Blue Ridge PBS are not shutting down despite federal funding cuts, PBS Appalachia Virginia said Friday, August 1 in a Facebook post.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced its closure due to federal funding cuts.

WDBJ7 spoke with PBS officials July 25 about the possibility of PBS Blue Ridge being shut down. However, because of donations from local viewers, PBS will not shut down in our area, according to the Facebook post.

PBS Appalachia Virginia says to continue providing programming for local shows, documentaries, and podcasts, donations are still needed.
