LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) – A San Antonio man will spend a little over three years in federal prison for smuggling undocumented people into the U.S.
Back in February, Jonathan Ray Balderas pleaded guilty to the charges for a human smuggling case that was reported on I-35 near mile marker 29 in Nov. Of 2024.
According to court documents, Balderas tried to bring ten people into the country by loading them up in the bed of his truck and using a thin tarp to cover it.
Reports say authorities pulled the truck over after they noticed an outline of people inside the bed of the truck.
There they found undocumented migrants who were from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
Balderas was sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
