San Diego’s medical care is among the best in the nation.

That’s according to the U.S. News and World and Report’s 2025-2026 hospital rankings, among which San Diego’s health institutions and centers made a strong showing.

A plethora of facilities in and around the city topped the charts, ranking in the top 100 across the country. The report includes an “honor roll” for hospitals that are the best of the best, as well as specialty-specific rankings.

University of California San Diego Health, Scripps Health and several Sharp Health campuses carried San Diego to the top of the rankings in specialties, but none of the centers made the national honor roll.

The Scripps Green Hospital and the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla were combined in the report and listed as “Scripps La Jolla Hospitals,” and together ranked 13th for diabetes and endocrinology, 18th for orthopedics, 24th for cardiology, 32nd for gastroenterology, 38th for geriatrics and 46th for pulmonology.

Scripps La Jolla Hospitals cracked the top 50 in six of the 15 specialties ranked in the report. Scripps Health also earned a “high-performing” rank in several other specialties.

Scripps La Jolla Hospital was rated high performing in neurology and neurosurgery, as well as urology and cancer. The Scripps Mercy Hospital made the high-performing cut for psychiatry.

“The perennial inclusion of Scripps among the best health care providers in the nation is the direct result of the exceptional care that our physicians, nurses and other employees deliver to patients every day,” Van Gorder, Scripps Health president and chief executive officer, said in a release.

“Despite the multitude of challenges facing our industry, Scripps continues to deliver on its century-old founding mission to provide the best possible care to everyone in our community.”

Scripps La Jolla Hospital was ranked No. 2 overall in the San Diego region and sixth in California.

Taking the number one spot, for the sixth year in a row, UCSD snagged the No. 1 title for the San Diego region.

“Being named No. 1 in the region for the sixth consecutive year highlights the dedication of our physicians, nurses, researchers and support teams working side by side every day to deliver the best possible patient care,” said UC San Diego chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla in a statement.

“Together, we are driving medicine forward through investment in groundbreaking research applied to making a real difference in the lives of our patients and community.”

UCSD was ranked fifth in California, just above Scripps, following the four-way tie for first between Stanford Health Care, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCLA Health and UC San Francisco Health.

The UCSD Health La Jolla, Hillcrest and East Campus medical centers collectively ranked 28th for gastroenterology, 18th for geriatrics, 28th for neurology, 7th for obstetrics and gynecology, 8th for pulmonology and  46th for urology.

The USCD Health Moores Cancer Center ranked 41st for cancer, and the UCSD Cardiovascular Institute ranked 27th for cardiology.

“Our specialty care teams truly push the boundaries of medical innovation, working as collaborative teams with a shared purpose of excellent patient care,” said Dr. Cynthia Gyamfi-Bannerman, chair and professor at UCSD School of Medicine and a perinatologist at UCSD Health.

Sharp Health also topped the charts. Sharp Memorial Hospital ranked 39th in Ears, Nose and Throat specialties, a specialty ranking no other San Diego hospitals made the cut for. Sharp Memorial ranked high performing in six of the fifteen specialties ranked by U.S. News and World Report.
