In an earlier Transfer Tape article featuring Jaylin Sellers, he was key in Central Florida’s 65-60 victory over #3 Kansas. We’ll pick it up two games later when UCF traveled to Texas.

The Knights were in the midst of a brutal stretch to kick off conference play — at Kansas State, home against Kansas and #17 BYU, then back on the road to play Texas.

Sellers was the team’s leading scorer at this point of the season, averaging 17.5 points per game, but he came off the bench at Texas. The change to the starting lineup did little to help UCF, who fell behind 15-2 out of the gate before chipping away in the first half.

Texas dominated this game for the first 25 minutes, but Central Florida stormed back in the second half, outscoring the Longhorns 45-27 and closing on a 31-12 run over the final 12 minutes en route to a 77-71 victory. As he’d done in a similar comeback against Kansas, head man Johnny Dawkins switched to zone defense that changed the course of the game.

Through their first four games as a Big 12 team, UCF was making noise, knocking off the previous season’s regular season winners (Kansas) and Big 12 Tournament (Texas) champions.

Sellers led the way against Texas, notching his fifth 20+ point game of the season with 24 points, while fellow guard Shemari Allen made huge buckets late.

Sellers was outstanding in this one — shooting 7-12 from the field, 2-6 beyond the arc, 8-for-8 at the free throw line (including four in the final minute) and committed zero turnovers

An added bonus this was an opportunity to see Dillon Mitchell of Texas (who will play for St. John’s this season). While not receiving the acclaim of other members of the Johnnies’ transfer class, Mitchell is an athletic veteran who played very well (15 points, 9 boards). There’s footage of Mitchell included.

As we do this every Transfer Tape, the video includes more than just highlights — you’ll see every field goal attempt from Sellers, all free throw attempts, and more. He scored in a number of ways, including step back jumpers, off a quick first step, on mid-range pull-ups, beyond the arc, by getting to the line, and scoring after a heady cut to the paint. It’s hard not to be encouraged by what Providence has in him after watching this one.

Vanderbilt brought an 8-1 record with them into their matchup with TCU at the USLBM Coast to Coast Challenge in early December, with wins over Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, California, and Nevada.

Vandy was still working its way through their rotation, and at this point of the year Jason Edwards was coming off the bench, despite leading the team in scoring at 18 points per game.
