SAN ANTONIO — One of the big stories we’re following is the disaster preparedness and flooding committee meeting in Kerrville.
Lawmakers and city leaders were hit with a barrage of questions in Kerrville last week, as the community demanded answers into the July 4 flooding that killed more than 100 people along the Guadalupe River.
Kerr county neighbors are angry about the lack of evacuation orders issued, calling it complacency on the part of county leaders.
Another tough question for lawmakers should the power of issuing evacuations be expanded from solely the county judge and mayor?
Lawmakers brought up the idea of standards or requirements for emergency management leaders. During the hours-long committee meeting, lawmakers heard concerns related to flash flooding and disaster response from citizens in several counties.
The committee hearing may be over for now, but we are working to get answers on this still developing story including:
- What did the committee take away that they’ll take action on?
- Will their actions make things safer for those living along Texas rivers?
- What will the impact of testimony have on the future of the Kerr County judge?
We’ll continue to work to get answers on this story and others.
