A toddler is dead after she was hit by a vehicle outside her home in northeast Calgary on Monday night.

Emergency crews were called to Taradale Drive NE near Taravisty Way around 6:55 p.m. for reports of a young child being hit by a vehicle.

Calgary police say a girl around two-years-old was struck in the back alley just outside her house.

The girl was rushed to the Alberta Children’s hospital where she eventually died from her injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, but police say alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
