SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Emergency Services District No. 4 (ESD 4) Board of Commissioners has formally accepted the resignation of Fire Chief Craig Ramon, according to a statement released by the board.

Chief Ramon submitted his resignation on Monday, June 23. At a specially called meeting held on Tuesday evening, the board voted to accept it and announced plans to appoint an interim fire chief while they begin a search for a permanent replacement.

“The Board has complete confidence in the personnel and will continue to support them and their efforts in serving those in the community,” the statement reads. “Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) 911 services will continue without interruption.”

The resignation follows growing concerns among some firefighters over alleged operational failures and staffing issues within the department. At a previous public meeting on Monday, several firefighters spoke out about burnout and low morale, citing excessive overtime and understaffing as major issues affecting both their well-being and public safety.
