Imagine Library of Johnson County sends free books to children from birth to age five.

FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Imagination Library of Johnson County is launching a fundraising campaign, trying to make up for $1 million in lost state funding.

The program provides free books to kids from birth until they’re five years old.

The Johnson County Community Foundation found kindergarteners in Franklin Community Schools who were enrolled in the library for at least four-and-a-half years scored higher on literacy tests than the district average.

The foundation doesn’t want to see those numbers suffer, so they’re putting $500,000 toward a dollar-for-dollar matching campaign.

The goal is to raise $1 million to permanently fund the Imagination Library of Johnson County.
