Indiana Fever All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell is known for her explosive scoring. She is impressive from beyond the arc and can also take over games. As a 5’8″ combo guard, Mitchell’s game blends speed, sharpshooting, and an aggressive attacking mindset.
Mitchell has played the entirety of her WNBA career with the Fever, who selected her No. 2 overall, only behind A’ja Wilson, in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
Although she earned a WNBA All-Rookie Team selection, Mitchell’s performances elevated after the arrival of Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 picks at the 2023 and 2024 WNBA Drafts, respectively. Now, she has earned three straight All-Star selections.

Mitchell is currently not in any romantic relationship and is single. Despite keeping her relationships private, the 29-year-old is very close with her family.
Mitchell was born on Nov. 12th, 1995, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Basketball was basically in her blood from the very beginning. She grew up in a household of several athletes. Her dad, Mark Mitchell, was a football player and coach.
Her mom, Cheryl, played college basketball at Eastern Kentucky. Notably, Cheryl was a standout rebounder in college. She later became a social worker, while Mark coached high school basketball around the Cincinnati area.
Kelsey was very close to her father, who coached her and her siblings. She isn’t an only child. She’s one of four kids, and there are two sets of twins in her family. Her older brothers, Kevin and Cameron, have an athletic background.
Kevin was a soccer star, while Cameron played football. Her twin sister, Chelsea, played basketball alongside Kelsey. Growing up, Kelsey Mitchell would sit at the end of her brothers’ youth team benches just to hang out with them.
The very first time she ever stepped on a court in a game was when a player fouled out at one of her brother’s games. At four years old, she hopped into the game and proved she belonged.
Her dad was truly her mentor. He even ran their family through tough backyard and city court workouts, teaching his sons and daughters how to compete against everyone. Sadly, her dad passed away unexpectedly in March 2024 at the age of 56.
She still remembers her father’s teachers. Before her second All-Star selection in 2023, Mitchell shared a private moment with her father.
“The one thing I’ll never forget,” Mitchell said. My dad always told me, ‘You’re always going to be judged by your consistency, not your position of power.’ He always told me, ‘You’re reliable and you’re consistent.’ He said people will always come.
“You know, my dad used to say, ‘Ain’t no shortcuts. You can’t press no keypad and just get there, no shortcuts.’ My dad preached punching it right in the face. He said, ‘Ain’t no way around it. There is no way around hard work or being whatever you want to be. You gotta punch it right in the face.”
The Fever star is also engaged in charitable endeavours. Through Mitchell’s non-profit, The KelzHoop Foundation, she supports young student-athletes with limited opportunities.
