There were no schools closed in Queensland, Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said at a press conference held this morning, with supervision in place for any students who turned up.
But Langbroek said if any schools had to be closed, students would be kept safe.
About 50,000 Queensland state school teachers were expected to strike today, with supervision – but no lessons – to be handled by non-Queensland Teachers’ Union staff, including teacher aides for any children who arrived.
“If there were to be (closures), then there’s a real chain of command,” Langbroek said.
“That means that regional directors and school supervisors work with the school to ensure the safety of their children.
“There’d have to be communication, as we did during Tropical Cyclone Alfred, to make sure that parents are informed.
“So they’d all be kept on site before parents are allowed to collect them.”
