Metro Vancouver’s busy summer of construction and roadwork rolls on, and commuters are bracing for the closure of a Highway 1 entrance for several weeks.
Drivers are warned that the on-ramp to eastbound Highway 1 from East 1st Avenue will close for three weeks until Monday, Aug. 25.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the closures are to facilitate the City of Vancouver’s street upgrades on East 1st Avenue.
“During the closure period, there will be no right or left turn onto the on-ramp from East 1st Avenue,” said the Ministry in a release.

“Drivers can detour through East Hastings Street or Grandview Highway eastbound to access Highway 1 eastbound and should plan additional travel time through the route.”
The East 1st Avenue on-ramp to Highway 1 will be closed around the clock. The Ministry of Transportation and Transit added that it will announce if any further closures or extensions are needed, and reminded all motorists to obey signage in the roadwork area.
The off-ramp in the area also recently shut down several times to allow City of Vancouver crews to carry out sewer upgrade work along East 1st Avenue.
And just a short drive away in Burnaby, a separate closure at Exit 33 (Kensington Avenue) is currently in place until Aug. 31, as crews address pavement settlement issues that have created bumpy road conditions.
