Theater lovers are in for some treats this weekend around Fort Worth, with the return of a favorite Broadway musical, as well as three local theater productions. Other choices include screenings of a new film, two comedians, two concerts, and the final days of a notable art exhibition.

Magnolia at the Modern: My Mother’s Wedding
In this heartfelt and funny story, three sisters (Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham) return to their childhood home for a momentous occasion: the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother (Kristin Scott Thomas). Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate the new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, all with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests. The film will screen seven times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Jubilee Theatre presents Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds
Audiences can experience the magic of Bob Marley’s timeless music in the jubilant musical Three Little Birds. Set against the backdrop of Jamaica, the heartwarming tale follows the adventures of Ziggy, a young boy who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and bravery. With the help of his friends, Nansi and Doctor Bird, Ziggy learns valuable lessons about courage, friendship, and the power of hope. The production runs through August 31 at Jubilee Theatre.
Broadway at the Bass presents The Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon, the nine-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical, is an outrageous comedy that follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread the Good Word. The national tour will have five performances through Sunday at Bass Performance Hall.
Theatre Arlington presents I’m Proud of You
Fred Rogers (aka Mr. Rogers) died over 20 years ago, but his legacy has lived on thanks to Fort Worth author Tim Madigan’s 2012 book, I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Fred Rogers; the 2018 documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?; and the 2019 feature film, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Madigan’s book was turned into a play which made its world premiere at Circle Theatre in Fort Worth in 2023. The production, running through August 24 at Theatre Arlington, chronicles male friendship at its finest and most powerful.
Improv Arlington presents Cocoa Brown
Comedian Cocoa Brown assails her craft with a passion and soul-searching veracity. She draws from painful reminiscences and hard-knocked lessons, bravely weaving humorous tales that uplift, upend, and upgrade everything audiences thought they knew about comedy. She’ll perform five times through Sunday at Improv Arlington.
Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents My Fair Lady
Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, with book, music, and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, My Fair Lady is the tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady. Features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores, songs include “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” and more. The production runs through August 24 at Stolen Shakespeare Guild.
Los Lonely Boys in concert
Hailing from San Angelo, Los Lonely Boys play a style of music that they’ve dubbed “Texican Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which blends elements of rock, blues, soul, country, and Tejano. After self-releasing a couple of albums in the 1990s, they scored two top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 in the 2000s. After a long layoff, they put out their first new album in 10 years in 2024, Resurrection. They’ll play at Billy Bob’s Texas.

Hyena’s presents Jim Norton
Standup comedian Jim Norton is a two-time New York Times bestselling author and can be heard every morning on The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. In addition to appearing on shows like Inside Amy Schumer (Comedy Central), Louie (FX), and Crashing (HBO), Norton has released a number of comedy specials, most recently Unconceivable on YouTube. He’ll perform twice on Saturday at Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub.
William Clark Green in concert
Country singer William Clark Green is no stranger to playing in Fort Worth, both as a solo performer, as part of the group The Panhandlers, alongside fellow singer Drake White, and as part of the Fort Worth Music Festival. Green has released six albums in his career, most recently Baker Hotel in 2022. He’ll play once again at Billy Bob’s Texas.

Amon Carter Museum of American Art presents “Richard Avedon at the Carter” closing day
Sunday will be the final day to view “Richard Avedon at the Carter” at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Presented four decades after Avedon’s “In the American West,” the exhibition features 40 works from the series accompanied by behind-the-scenes archival material of Avedon’s acclaimed portraits. It will also include archival photographs captured by artist Laura Wilson.
