We’ve gotten bits and pieces over the last couple weeks and months, but earlier this week, we finally got the full picture on the schedule for the 2025-26 North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball season. On Tuesday, UNC released the complete non-conference schedule for this coming women’s basketball season, which will include six home games, an away matchup in Greensboro, and a trip to Las Vegas.
We already knew a good chunk of the slate, as the ACC/SEC Challenge matchup against Texas, and the Heels’ participation in the Cancun Challenge having already been announced. Adding to that, a set of games in Las Vegas, including a marquee matchup against potential national title contender UCLA in the WBCA Challenge, was also recently announced.
There weren’t any more massively high profile games added to the schedule when it was fully announced on Tuesday, but we did get a slate of in-state matchups. The Tar Heels will be hosting North Carolina Central, Elon, UNC Greensboro, Boston University, UNC Wilmington, and Charleston Southern in Chapel Hill throughout the first half of the season.
The most interesting addition to the schedule is a trip to Greensboro to take on North Carolina A&T. The game is an away one as it will be held in A&T’s Corbett Sports Center home, although it seems likely that there will be a good chunk of Tar Heel fans in attendance for that one.
Between a preseason exhibition matchup against South Carolina and now games against Texas and UCLA, UNC are not set to play three of last year’s Final Four at some point this year. Add in their games against Columbia, Kansas State, and South Dakota State at the Cancun Challenge, a game against Fairfield as part of the aforementioned Las Vegas trip, and the newly announced UNCG, the Tar Heels will play seven teams that made last year’s NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, the ACC is a plenty stacked conference itself, having put seven teams besides the Tar Heels in the dance last year, so you’ll be able to maybe even double that number once the conference schedule is announced.
Ever since Courtney Banghart took the reins at UNC, the program has generally been on an upward trajectory. One thing that’s come along with that is opportunities to test the Tar Heels against some of the big powers in the sport. They’ve been more than willing to take those tests, and that’s set to continue in the 2025-26 season.
