PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Caregivers helped rescue residents as a fast-moving fire broke out at an assisted living home in Phoenix late Thursday night.
Phoenix firefighters were called to the fire at a home near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Crews say the fire started in the front carport and quickly spread to the home.
Firefighters deployed hose lines, while other crews used a ladder to climb up to the roof to attack the flames. As crews were busy putting out the blaze, staff helped get everyone out of the home.

“This is an assisted living home for individuals who require constant supervision and care. The caregivers inside the home did an outstanding job evacuating all the residents to safety in the backyard,” said Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade.
Four people were hospitalized in stable condition. No firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Staff with Phoenix’s community assistance program are coordinating with caretakers to help the residents affected.
