Baytown — If you’re traveling to Houston this weekend, plan ahead or plan to to get caught in a traffic jam that could stretch for miles.

The Texas Department of Transportation plans a full closure of the westbound I-10 lanes at John Martin Road for scheduled bridge maintenance.

According to TxDOT, the closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday, August 8, and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, August 11. Crews will be repairing structural expansion joints on the bridge during that time.

Detour: All traffic will be rerouted via the I-10 frontage road

Closure duration: Friday 9 p.m. through Monday 5 a.m.

TxDOT warns that motorists may experience delays and urges drivers to consider alternate routes if possible. Law enforcement will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

“TxDOT appreciates your patience and reminds motorists to drive with caution through work zones and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment,” the agency said in the release.
