SAN ANTONIO – A 25-year-old man is in the Bexar County Jail after police say he attacked and kidnapped his former girlfriend, threatening to kill her and flee the country to avoid prosecution.

According to the arrest report, Angel Miguel Cespedes Ronda and the victim had been in a relationship and worked together at a local barber shop but did not live together.

On May 4, when the shop was empty, the woman told police he locked the front door, took her cellphone and declared, “You cannot have a phone, you are still my woman.” She said Cespedes Ronda was angry because she had recently ended their relationship and that he had been drinking and using drugs that day.

The affidavit states he slapped her in the face, knocking her to the ground, then began punching and kicking her while wearing several large gold rings. After leaving briefly, Cespedes Ronda allegedly returned, blaming her for “ruining” his life and saying he would lose his U.S. residency. At one point, police say, he grabbed scissors and a knife, told her she “deserved death,” and forced her into his car, threatening to drive to Mexico so police could not find him.

The woman told investigators she complied out of fear.

At his apartment, she said Cespedes Ronda alternated between apologizing for the beating and telling her he should have killed her to prevent her from reporting him. She accused him of sexually assaulting her and holding her through the night, repeatedly threatening to leave the country.

The next day, she persuaded him to let her go. Later, when she went to retrieve her belongings from the barber shop, she said he slapped her twice in the face.

Authorities noted in the affidavit that Cespedes Ronda is from another country and has repeatedly threatened to flee the United States to avoid arrest. He is charged with kidnapping.

As of Friday morning, he remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail.
