FORT WORTH – Eddie Glenn “Ed” McGinnis, 78, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025. A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Eddie will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, located at 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Born on September 30, 1946, in Portales, New Mexico, Eddie was the son of J.F. (Jeff) and Moree Lemons McGinnis. Growing up alongside his brothers, Carrol and the late Windal McGinnis, and his sister, Gay Nell McGinnis, Eddie was known for his fun-loving yet calm and caring demeanor. He carried those qualities with him throughout life, forging relationships marked by kindness and dependability. While at Frenship High School near Lubbock, Texas, Eddie met the love of his life, Martha Jane Coker, who he declared to his dying day was the prettiest girl in the school. Together, Eddie and Martha enjoyed an extraordinary 60 years of marriage, raising their daughter, Kimberly, and son, Kevin, in a home filled with love, laughter, and the values that Eddie embodied every day. Eddie pursued his education at Texas Tech University, earning a degree in Business Finance – a testament to his perseverance and work ethic. In his youth, Eddie was involved in the family custom harvesting business, working alongside his brothers to help his dad with the mechanical maintenance of the combines and trucks in preparation for the intensive summer and fall harvesting months. Even as a pre-teen operating the massive combines, Eddie learned the importance of hard work, excellence in work performance, and the necessity for absolute and uncompromised respect and honesty in customer relations. These early lessons were only reinforced and sharpened throughout his adult life and contributed to his successful career. A respected figure in the automotive industry, Eddie spent over two decades as a Chevrolet car dealer near Lubbock, building not just a successful business, but also lifelong friendships with colleagues and customers alike. In the later years of his career, he continued sharing his expertise through his auto dealer consulting business, always eager to lend a hand or offer guidance. Outside of work, Eddie filled his days with simple joys – a commitment to daily walks or bike rides–regardless of the weather, meticulous care for his home and yard, and above all, creating cherished memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. He found joy in travel and relished every opportunity to explore new places with loved ones. A man of faith, Eddie was an active member of Christ Chapel Bible Church, anchoring his faith and providing opportunities for him to support and uplift his community. Eddie’s professional and community service achievements were eclipsed only by his wholehearted devotion to his family (immediate and extended). At every turn, Eddie demonstrated full commitment to his love for family. The prized car dealership was sold so Eddie and Martha could move from Lubbock to Fort Worth to be near their children and grandchildren. As a result, they were able to attend ALL events, performances, games, recognitions, and high school and college graduations for all of the grandchildren. Whether a grandchild’s wedding (past or upcoming), great-grandchild’s baptism, or overnight at the zoo with grandchildren, you could count on Eddie to be present, encouraging, and glowing with love, without exception. Grandy (Eddie’s granddad nickname) created opportunities to teach and model treasured values and priorities, such as taking the grandchildren at Christmas to shop then deliver baskets full of gifts they selected for children in need. Eddie was committed to family gatherings for recreational travel, often multiple times each year, resulting in strengthening especially close relationships and creating many cherished memories. Holiday celebrations and family meals were coveted, to the point that Eddie’s first words following brain surgery were “what will we do for Thanksgiving and Christmas.” Eddie seized any opportunity to spend time with Kimberly and Kevin, whether meeting up for a morning walk along the trail or “standing up” as best man at Kevin’s wedding. Maintaining long term relationships with friends and extended family was a priority. Eddie would often just pick up the phone to chat as a welfare check or for an update on life happenings. Eddie’s priority for kindness was literally “written on his face” through his constant smile and reinforced with one of his favorite prompts through words and example that “it costs not a penny to be kind.” Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Moree McGinnis; and his brother, Windal McGinnis (Sunny). Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his devoted children, Kimberly McGinnis Laird (Trey) and Kevin McGinnis (Dory), all of Fort Worth; brother, Carrol McGinnis (Sharon); sister, Gay Nell McGinnis; his treasured grandchildren, Emma Grace Laird Burns (Taylor), Addison McGinnis, Alexandra McGinnis (fiancé John Grover), Emerson Laird, and William Laird; and great-grandchild, Charlie Burns. Eddie’s legacy is one of love, kindness, quiet generosity, and passion to help others. He touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers or for any wishing to honor Eddie through worthy giving, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Chapel Bible Church, 3701 Berchman Ave, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; or the American Brain Tumor Association, 8530 W Bryn Mawr Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60631.
