Newcastle are expected to make an improved offer for Yoane Wissa as the Magpies look to bolster their forward line this summer.

The 28-year old was absent again for Brentford as they played a training ground friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

The Bees are subsequently exploring the possibility of signing Dango Ouattara as a replacement for Wissa should he depart the club.

Newcastle have endured a tumultuous transfer window and saw a £25million bid for the forward rejected by Brentford last month.

Brentford have not set a valuation on Wissa, who will turn 29 in September, but are believed to be hoping for about £40million.

He has just a year left on his contract but the Bees have the option to extend it by a further year until 2027.

Wissa scored 19 goals and claimed five assists in the league last season and wants to join Newcastle, meaning that personal terms are not thought to be an issue should a fee be agreed.

While he is still seeking a move away from west London, Wissa has returned to training after talks with Brentford head coach Keith Andrews.

That has seen him resume training for the first time since leaving Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal on July 21.
