A WNBA Finals rematch is set to take place this weekend when the New York Liberty (19-10, first in Eastern Conference) host the Minnesota Lynx (25-5, first in Western Conference) on Sunday afternoon from the Barclays Center.
The Liberty and Lynx have been the two best teams in the WNBA this season. New York and Minnesota both started the season on a nine-game winning streak However, this game will have noticeable missing star power on both sidelines.
For the Liberty, two-time MVP and seven-time All-Star forward Breanna Stewart will miss a seventh consecutive game with a lower leg injury she suffered on July 26 against the Los Angeles Sparks. She missed the first meeting between these teams on July 30, where Minnesota came out on top 100-93 at the Target Center.
Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, the runaway favorite to win WNBA MVP (-750) on BetMGM this season and leading the league with 23.5 points per game — will also be sidelined for Sunday’s contest as she suffered a sprained right ankle on Aug. 2 versus the Las Vegas Aces. The reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year had a game-high 30 points and her third 30+ point performance in six games since the All-Star Break in the lone head-to-head meeting versus the Liberty.
Given these teams performances in 2025, it should be no surprise they’re the top-two odds-on-favorites on BetMGM (Liberty +160, Lynx +165) to win the championship this season. Last year’s WNBA Finals between the Liberty and Lynx notably went the distance, as four of the five games were decided by five or fewer points, including two games that required overtime and a winner-take-all Game 5 where the Liberty won 67-62 in overtime to earn their first title in franchise history despite a controversial ending in regulation.
