After 20 laps of racing, the first stage of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen is complete, and it’s Chris Buescher who has taken the early victory.
Buescher’s stage win perhaps does not tell the full story of the race so far, however, with he and several other drivers opting not to pit under green flag conditions to take home some crucial stage points as they look to add to their regular season tally.

Until the pit stops, it was Ryan Blaney who led the race, with the Team Penske star having started on pole and been able to keep Shane van Gisbergen at bay when the green flag dropped. The pair finished stage one down in 7th and 8th, respectively.
Elsewhere at Watkins Glen, Kyle Larson went for a spin in the No. 5, complaining of ‘no brakes’ over the radio after going off track on lap 6.
As the stage ended, Larson was in the garage undergoing repairs, and he is going to be many many laps down on the rest of the field if indeed he does make it back to the track.
With that said, let’s take a look at the full results from Watkins Glen so far!
