A woman from Spring Valley is facing animal cruelty charges after a video was sent to authorities appearing to show her strike a Chihuahua with a wooden plank and then cover the dog with a container and kicking them, according to a press release from the County of San Diego Communications Office.

The video was taken by a concerned citizen on July 21, and the suspect was located on Aug. 10 by the County Animal Services law enforcement officers.

The small dog was forcibly impounded and is receiving a cruelty exam from Animal Services veterinary staff.

The communications office said that “while the dog appears frightened, medical personnel report that it is doing well and is recovering.”

All the evidence is being turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for review, and the County Animal Services is recommending that suspect be charged with animal cruelty.

The County Animal Services encourages anyone who witnesses suspected animal abuse or neglect to report it immediately by calling 619-234-2341.
