Triple-digit heat persists, but storm chances rise later this week for Phoenix

  • August 11, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Tuesday evening, which means Monday and Tuesday are First Alert Days.

Cooler temperatures are likely by the end of the week, along with a 20% to 30% chance of showers.

Hazy skies have moved into the Valley, and that may linger into the evening. The haze is likely partly due to the lingering dust that initially blew into metro Phoenix overnight on Saturday. Another contributing factor to the dimmer skies is the cloud cover generated by showers and storms to our north. These clouds have been pushed south over the Valley. It’s also possible that some wildfire smoke could be mixed in with the dust and clouds as well.

A few lingering showers and storms are possible tonight in the higher elevations north of Phoenix. While rain is unlikely, it’s possible some gusty outflow winds could move towards the Valley.

A hot day is ahead on Monday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 111. The warmest day of the week is likely to be Tuesday, with a high of 112. Although the extreme heat warning will no longer be in effect, it will still be a warm day on Wednesday, with a high of 110.

Some monsoon moisture is expected to return later this week, bringing a 20% to 30% chance of rain to the Valley by Thursday and Friday. In addition, cooler temperatures are expected to move in, potentially dropping to around 105 by Friday and into next weekend.
