BROOKLYN, New York – The San Antonio Spurs are expected to select Rutgers guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick in tonight’s 2025 NBA Draft, locking in one of the most complete and NBA-ready prospects in the class.
Harper, a 6-foot-6 playmaker with elite feel and toughness, made an immediate impact at Rutgers this past season—averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. His efforts earned him All-Big Ten Freshman and Third Team honors.

Scouts have praised Harper’s explosive finishing (nearly 68% at the rim), strong court vision, and defensive versatility, calling him a “jumbo lead guard” built for today’s NBA. Already a standout in high-profile events like the McDonald’s All-American Game (where he earned co-MVP) and the FIBA U-19 World Cup, Harper’s stock rose even further after working out twice for the Spurs—once in San Antonio, where he says he had his first breakfast taco and “felt at home,” and once back in New Jersey.

Harper talks about having his first breakfast taco on his visit to San Antonio.
I’ve had a breakfast taco one time. The breakfast taco is good. It’s like, it’s not as good as a big egg and cheese bagel, but it’s like right under.
Sources close to the team say it’s an “absolute lock” that Harper will be selected at No. 2 and immediately plugged into a playmaking role alongside Victor Wembanyama. Analysts agree the Harper-Wembanyama pick-and-roll could be the foundation of a dynamic new era in San Antonio. Though some have questioned the need for another point guard, Harper’s talent, size, and basketball IQ make him too valuable to pass up.
Meanwhile, the Spurs also hold the No. 14 pick and were reportedly involved in trade discussions surrounding Boston’s Kristaps Porzingis. However, the Celtics ultimately dealt Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday night in a three-team deal involving the Brooklyn Nets. Boston will receive Georges Niang and a second-round pick, while Brooklyn acquires Terance Mann and Atlanta’s No. 22 selection.
With Harper likely on the way and another lottery pick in hand , San Antonio appears poised to accelerate its rebuild and build a formidable young core around Wembanyama.
