Presters are speaking out against plans to expand two major highways in New York City.
Kevin Garcia with Environmental Justice Alliance was among the numerous environmental advocates and elected officials to gather in Brooklyn Monday. They voiced their concerns with the state’s plans to widen the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and expand the Cross Bronx Expressway.
“The BQE and Cross Bronx Expressway have plagued generations of black and brown residents with toxic pollution and disease. Residents in our neighborhoods face some of the highest asthma rates due to consistently poor air quality and dirty emissions.”
The state Department of Transportation says it’s conducting extensive outreach on the project, working closely with the community.
