SAN ANTONIO – A family of four was forced to flee their home after a fire broke out on the second floor, leaving the residence severely damaged.
The fire started around 2 a.m. Tuesday at a home off Red Rose near North Foster Road.
According to officials, the family had just returned from the movies and were preparing for bed when the children noticed the smell of smoke. They alerted their parents, prompting everyone, including the family dog, to get out of the house.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and found the second story fully engulfed in flames. Crews quickly battled the blaze, knocking down the fire and preventing it from spreading further.
Two firefighters were evaluated by emergency medical services at the scene. One was briefly overwhelmed by heat, while another suffered a minor head injury after a fall. Both were released after treatment.
The family’s home sustained significant damage to the second floor, as well as water and smoke damage throughout the first floor. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced family with temporary housing.
Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
