- Warnings and advisories: Heat and Extreme Heat Advisories, Beach Hazards statement
The heat continues today, but the good news is that temperatures will be slightly cooler come Wednesday and continue to dip for the rest of the week.
Valleys, mountains and desert communities will bear the brunt of the heat today as temperatures soar to the low 100s again.
The deserts are under an extreme heat warning. Coachella Valley will see daytime highs rise to 115 degrees, while Palmdale and the Antelope Valley will see temperatures around 109 degrees.
Meanwhile, the San Gabriel, Inland Empire and San Bernardino county mountains are under a heat advisory. Temperatures will reach the 80s and 90s at higher elevations, near 105 degrees in the foothills, and around 100 degrees for the Inland Empire.
In Orange County, you’ll see highs from 73 to 83 degrees on the coastal side, and up to 88 degrees inland.
L.A. County valleys will see highs from 85 to 94 degrees for most areas, and up to 100 degrees further inland.
L.A. County beaches will see temperatures in the mid 70s and up to 91 degrees for downtown L.A. But if you’re heading to the beach to beat the heat, the National Weather Service is warning the public to be careful in the ocean because of high surf.
Forecasters say dangerously strong rip currents and surf of up to 6 feet tall could sweep across Ventura and L.A. County beaches. Those conditions will are expected to last until Wednesday evening.
SoCal Cooling Centers
-
In L.A., Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, call 3-1-1 or call for a list of cooling centers. In the city of Los Angeles, you can also find a list of recreation centers, senior centers and libraries — all good choices for cooling off — online.
- Tip: Call the center in advance to make sure seating is available.
- Tip: If the center you want is at capacity, or non-operational, head to a local, air-conditioned library and cool off with a book about ice fishing in Antarctica.
