Veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford has been seen as all but certain to join the Golden State Warriors once they resolve their free agency logjam with forward Jonathan Kuminga for weeks now. But as the 2025 NBA offseason inches ever closer to the 2025-26 regular season, rumors of another potential outcome keep percolating up through the league’s media: retirement is still “on the table” for Horford according to recent reporting from ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
Per Slater, “Horford is comfortable waiting.” But retiring from the league is still an option for the Florida alum, even if “the Warriors appear to be operating as if he is a firm part of their plan next season.”

The ESPN analyst also relates that the presumption is that the Puerto Plata native will be the presumptive starter for the Dubs, even though Horford is entering his age 39 season and “hasn’t been playing both sides of back-to-backs.”
